The Indian challenge at the Australian open is still alive. In the doubles match up Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles dropped a set but overcame the challenge of Lopez/Verdasco to win 6-1 2-6 6-4 to book a place in the semi finals. In the mixed doubles the challenge of Paes and Carla Black ended with a straight set loss to Shneider and Moodier. Number 4 seeds Leander Paes and Lokas Dlouhy are set to play the unseeded Italian pair of Simone Bolleli and Andreas Seppi in the quarter finals Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza are also scheduled to play their quarter final match.

Safina goes through

Andy Roddick had good fortune on his side as an exhausted Novak Djokovic conceded the match to Roddick. Number 3 seed Dinara Safina battled it out for a worthy 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Jelena Dokic. In the first quarter final of the day Zvonareva beat Bartoli in straight sets 6-3 6-0. In the doubles quarter final Serena and Venus Williams reached the last four with a 6-2 4-6 6-3 victory over Su Sieh and Peng.
