CELTICS DEEPEN THEIR ROSTER
The Boston Celtics have deepened their roster by signing up veteran power forward PJ Brown today.Boston have been the second best defensive team of the season and have conceeded only 90.5 points per game but have been the second worst rebounding team.The 6"11 inch power forward played the last season with the Chicago Bulls before he went into semi retirement and he is considered a solid defender and one of the toughest rebounders of the game.He has also played for the New Jersey Nets, Miami Heat, Hornets and Bulls.He has averaged 9.2 points,1.0 blocks and also 7.8 rebounds per game.

CELTICS SMASH PORTLAND
Boston Celtics have made a winning return today as they beat Portland Trailblazers 112-102.Paul Pierce was the star of the show as he recorded 30 points on a 12 -14 shooting.Pierce said that the last game against Suns was among the worst games of his career and he was determined to make amends for that.The Celtics trailed by 17 points in the first half at one stage but they got their bearings back when the Trailblazers lost their all star guard Brandon Roy.Ray Allen also added 19 points for the Celtics.Travis outlaw had 24 points for the Trailblazers.Boston have struggled against the western conference road trip recently and this win will be enough to pep them up.

CAVALIERS UPGRADE THEIR TEAM
JASON KIDD RISES TO THE OCCASION
Dallas have now got their first win after star point guard Jason Kidd arrived at Dallas.Dallas took on Memphis and knocked them 98-83.Star power forward Dirk Norwitzki got 27 points while Jason Kidd added 15 dimes to his credit.Jason Terry scored 22 points on a 9-15 shooting while Howard added 20 points in what was a relatively comfortable outing for dallas.Rudy Gay led the Memphis scoring with 18 points as their misery continued and they have their depth and squad severely weakened by the trade of Pau Gasol.Dallas now hope that the big two of Kidd and Dirk can strike up a lethal combination to carry them deep into the playoffs this time around.

O NEAL DEBUT SPOILED BY KOBE BRYANT
Kobe Bryant compiled 41 points and Pau Gasol added 29 points as the Los angeles Lakers sprinted past the Phoenix suns 130-124 here on wednesday to spoil the debut of Shaq.Lamar Odom had 22 points and 11 boards while Shaq stacked up 15 points on a 6-9 shooting along with nine rebounds for the suns.This was also Kobe 90th outburst of 40 or more points.Amare Stoudameire added 37 points and 15 boards while star guard Steve Nash added 26 points and also eight dimes to end up on the losing side.O neal came in a blockbuster trade that sent Marion and Banks to Miami and also he played for the Lakers from 1996-2004.

KAPONO WINS THE THREE POINT SHOOTOUT
Jason Kapono proved that he is the best shooter beyond the arc in the NBA for the second consecutive season by winning the footlocker contest at the All star weekend for the second time in as many years.The Toronto Raptors forward also scored 25 points in the finals against Daniel Gibson and Dirk Norwitzki and equalled the world record set by Price way back in 1986.Kapono made all the money balls in the final round.The field was very strong this year and the main contestants were two time winner Peja Stojakovic,Daniel Gibson,Richard Hamilton,Steve nash and Kapono himself.Nash and Stojakovic bowed out in the first round itself and Nash in particular was very disappointing.

NEWJERSEY DEFEAT DALLAS!
Vince Carter exploded with 29 points at last and gave New Jersey nets a thumping 19 points win over Dallas Mavericks.Carter scored 25 points of his 29 after being hit by Brendon Bass in the second quarter.He however rose back to the occasion and showed some glimpses of his explosiveness and shooting prowess to give the Nets only their fourth win in the past 16 games.Richard Jefferson added 19 points and also Jason Kidd finished four rebounds shy of another triple double and winded up with 13 points.The win must give Nets some confidence to atleast get a last spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs.

THREE POINT CONTEST
The Toronto raptors Jason Kapono will aim to defend the footlocker three point contest when the all star week end kicks off.He will be aiming to become the first man to win the title on consecutive occasions after Peja Stojakovic did it in 2002 and 2003.The field is very strong this time around.He will be joined by Kobe Bryant a 10 time all star and a good three point shooter and also Daniel Gibson of cleveland Cavaliers and Richard Hamilton of Detroit Pistons.The favourites however for this contest along with Kapono are Steve Nash of Phoenix suns who is an excllent shooter and Peja Stojakovic makes a return to this contest and he is deadly from beyond the arc.

BARBOSA LEADS THE SUNS ASSAULT
Leandro Barbosa and Raja Bell are one of the best shooters from beyond the arc in the NBA.Charlotte Bobcats had a hard time and were at the receiving end as they combined for 12 three pointers as Phoenix suns 16-36 from beyond the arc against Bobcats to beat them 118-104 and lost four away matches in a row.Raja Bell scored 24 points and Barbosa drained a game high 30 points and Jason Richardson scored 25 points for the Bobcats who were without Gerald Wallace.Phoenix made 22-of-35 shots (63 percent) in a 64-point second half.

LAKERS CRUISE PAST THE WIZARDS
The Los Angeles Lakers just cruised past the Washington Wizards who were without Gilbert Arenas and Lakers have now been boosted by the arrival of Spanish Superstar Pau Gasol.Kobe was full of energy again and he scored 30 points on 10-15 shooting as he shot beyond the arc and also at times drove to the rim and finished with sparkling dunks.The wizards were defeated 103-91
and Kobe scored 19 points in the first half of the game alone.Gasol, the 7-foot Spaniard who came over from the Memphis Grizzlies in a trade Friday, sat on the sideline in a pinstriped suit jacket, listening to tips on the Lakers' triangle offense from assistant coach Brian Shaw.Lamar Odom scored 14 points and Radmanovic scored 15 points on a 6-9 shooting.Butler scored 15 points and Antawn Jamison scored 21 points for Wizards.
DETROIT PISTONS ROUT MAVERICKS
The Detroit pistons always have an habit of coming up with the best when they play against the top teams in the NBA.They have always defeated big teams even though they are very inconsistent.Dallas were routed 90-67 by Detroit and Sheed aka Rasheed Wallace scored 21 points and grabbed nine boards in a worst offensive night for Dallas this season.Dallas superstar Dirk Norwitzki was 3-18 from the field and was 0-5 from beyond the arc from where he is very deadly.Tayshaun Prince backed up Sheed with 16 points and star swingman Richard Hamilton scored 10 for the pistons who led by just 44-38 at the halftime.

STARTERS FOR THE ALL STAR GAME 2008
Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James have been named as starters for the Eastern Conference team in next month's NBA All-Star Game, the league announced on Thursday.
Garnett, the Eastern Conference's leading vote getter, will be making his 11th straight appearance in the mid-season event.
The 13-year veteran has averaged 19.5 points and 9.8 rebounds this season to help the Celtics to the best record in the league at 33-7, one year after they finished with the second-worst record.
Garnett will be joined in the frontcourt by James, who leads the league with 29.5 points per game and will be making his fourth straight All-Star appearance.
There is a changing of the guard at centre as Orlando's Dwight Howard earned his second straight appearance and first start.
Howard was a reserve last year behind Miami Heat centre Shaquille O'Neal, who has started in the last five All-Star Games but could miss out this season after an injury-plagued year.
O'Neal's Miami team mate, guard Dwyane Wade, will make his fourth straight appearance in the backcourt alongside Jason Kidd of the New Jersey Nets, who appear at his ninth All-Star Game.
On the Western Conference team, Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant will make his 10th straight appearance.
Bryant is second in the league in scoring behind James at 27.4 points.
Denver Nuggets guard Allen Iverson will make his ninth straight appearance, while his Denver teammate, forward Carmelo Anthony, makes his second straight appearance and first as a starter.
San Antonio Spurs centre Tim Duncan and Houston Rockets centre Yao Ming will fill out the rest of the frontcourt for the Western Conference. Duncan will be making his 10th straight appearance, while Yao will be headed to his sixth straight All-Star game.

WIZARDS DEFEAT CELTICS AGAIN
Boston led by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter but the Wizards finished the game with a 25-6 run to capture the victory, as the Celtics lost consecutive games for the first time this season.
Kevin Garnett had 23 points and nine rebounds and Paul Pierce added 18 points and Ray Allen 16 for the Celtics, who fell to 16-3 at home.
