Capello hails Terry
Terry's goal just before half-time may not quite make up for missing the penalty that would have won the Champions League for Chelsea seven days ago.
But at least he can go away in the knowledge he has given himself some kind of redemption for his tearful failure at the Luzhniki Stadium.
"I am very pleased to see him score," said Capello.
"I am very happy for him and us. It was important for him to score. He can go on his holiday happy now."
Apart from giving himself personal satisfaction, in leading England to a 2-0 win, Terry may also have provided Capello with a dilemma over who to make permanent captain when the decision is made prior to the friendly with the Czech Republic on August 20.
It had been felt Capello was edging towards Rio Ferdinand but Terry must have impressed with his authoritative approach, so his chances of holding onto the job given to him by Steve McClaren have not yet disappeared.
"John Terry is a leader," said Capello. "He is a leader for Chelsea and also the national team.
"The captaincy will not be an easy decision and even in my own mind I do not know what the decision will be.
"But I will make my mind up and when I decide I will talk with the players."
In confirming seven of the nine players who appeared in the Champions League final will not be required to make the trip to Trinidad for Sunday's next friendly, Capello declared himself "happy" with what was probably England's best performance of his three matches in charge so far.

Jaipur look to continue good run
The two teams, which finished first and fourth respectively in the preliminary phase of the Twenty20 league, are more or less evenly matched, at least on paper to produce a rivetting cricket match in front of a packed Wankhede gallary.
The team that hold its own in a battle of nerves would go through to the finals and play the winners of the second semi final to be played between Mohali and Chennai on Saturday.
Japiur and Delhi go into the semis with a 1-1 win loss record against each other in the league stages. While Jaipur won 11 of their 14 matches, Delhi managed seven wins, with one game getting washed out due to rain.
Both these teams would be hoping their top orders continue to come out all guns blazing like they have done all of the last month and a half.
The initial lateral movement and bounce at the Wankhede would mean there would have to be some top quality exhibition of batting from the top order and with both teams boasting of world class seamers, this should indeed be a clash of the titans between bat and ball.
Sohail Tanvir, with his akward action has troubled batsmen mercilessly, in he process bagging 21 wickets at just 10 runs per victim.
Vrey few of Delhi's batsmen have seen him much apart from regular India internationals like Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag and of course Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik.
So it might make sense to send the Pakistani captain up the order to counter the swing he gets.
Both teams carry good spin attacks as well. Warne and Yousuf Pathan and Dinesh Salunkhe are more than a handful for a good batting side while Delhi would look up to Amit Mishra and their skipper to tweak it for them.
There is no threat of rain playing spoil sport to what is expected to be a moth watering clash for cricket fanatics, a section that has blossomed from all layers of the society, tramnscending all age groups.

Madrid Soothe Man United
Earlier this week, United threatened to report Madrid to FIFA over persistent comments emerging from the Spanish capital about their interest in the Portuguese talisman.
However Calderon - to whom quotes about Ronaldo have been attributed regularly over the last two years - has moved to calm United's anger.
"You can't buy what the owner doesn't want to sell," he told Sky Sports News.
He is also quoted as saying on skysports.com: "We have not interfered with Manchester United's contract agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo.
"We're sorry that Manchester United - a club with which we have an excellent relationship - is annoyed with us because Real Madrid have nothing to do with that aspect.
"I want to clear this up with him and assure him we are not going to influence any player to break a contractual relationship.
"We are not going to start a conflict.
"If a club doesn't want to sell a player, why would we insist that they do sell him?"

Where is Mary?
Hi friends, I am going to blog about the USA Network's new original series In Plain Sight. This series is about Mary Shannon an US Marshal who is a part of the Federal witness protection program and finds the role very challenging. Her partner Marshal Mann is also a part of this program and they make quite a pair in helping the witness attain a varying degree of satisfaction. It is a great challenge to find the hidden image in the plain sight and I urge or just challenge the readers to do so. This crime based serial premiers on June 1 st and I also urge people to visit this site and get an idea about the serial and start watching it right away.

Super Kings in the final
The Super Kings needed victory to assure their place and were made to sweat on victory, finally reeling in the home side's 147 for eight when Suresh Raina clubbed a straight six from the second ball of the final over.
They will now travel to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday for the opportunity to play in the first ever Indian Premier League final.
Defeat for the Chargers completed a frustrating campaign when they failed to win at home and managed just two wins in 14 games to finish two wins adrift at the foot of the table.
The home side had laboured to their total of 147 for eight with local duo Venugopal Rao (46) and Dwaraka Ravi Teja (40) leading another Chargers recovery mission after the top-order again failed to deliver.
Openers Adam Gilchrist (five) and Herschelle Gibbs (eight) fell cheaply, before Scott Styris' run-a-ball innings of 20 was ended when he slogged across the line and was bowled by Muttiah Muralitharan.
However, in front of their home crowd, Venugopal Rao and Ravi Teja combined for a 76-run stand from 50 balls to help set a competitive total.
Parthiv Patel (20) and Stephen Fleming (14) got the Super Kings off to a quick start and when captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (37) was caught at long-off by Gibbs from the bowling of Pragyan Ojha, the visitors needed a manageable 33 from 28 balls.
Some tight bowling from Styris loosened the Super Kings' grip on the game, but Raina remained as a steady presence.
The India left-hander found the boundary regularly enough to keep his side in control of the game before supplying the killer blow in the final over, smashing a straight six off Paidikalva Vijaykumar.

Fergie is the best
Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reserved his place in an exclusive club in Moscow last Wednesday evening when he claimed his second European crown nine years after the first to further enhance the reputation he has established over his illustrious career.
O'Shea was an unused substitute as United overcame domestic rivals Chelsea in a dramatic penalty shoot-out to help Ferguson get the better of the soon-to-depart Avram Grant.
He has little doubt as to the fiery Scot's place in the managerial pantheon after his first few days working under new Republic of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni following his big night in Russia.
O'Shea said: "I think he is up there on his own - although our new Ireland manager is no slouch when it comes to winning trophies.
"But I think our gaffer is up there on his own and he is hungry for more - and credit to him for that because obviously he feels that this team can go on and write a new part in the club's famous history."
Ferguson's hunger for success saw him abort his retirement plans to build a new team at Old Trafford, and O'Shea would not be at all surprised if his latest taste of glory kept him at the helm for some time yet.
He said: "It's what gives the manager his enthusiasm and desire to become a part of such a team.
"There are stories coming out that he has three more years in charge - I would say he could be there longer than that."

Masterful innings at Sabina Park by Symmo
West Indies were set 287 to win and were 41-1 at the close after Brenton Parchment fell caught behind to Stuart Clark. Devon Smith, on 19, and skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan, on eight, were the not out batsmen. The highest fourth innings total to win at Sabina Park is 212 by West Indies against Sri Lanka in 2003.
Australia were 17-5 when Symonds came to the crease and although they held a first innings lead of 119 runs, the situation was not too auspicious for them until Symonds’ 118-ball effort that included nine boundaries and three sixes.
Australia managed to reach 167 after being bowled out in 56.5 overs as Dwayne Bravo finished the pick of the bowling with 4-47 after Fidel Edwards and Daren Powell each claimed three wickets.
Monday’s play at Old Trafford, Manchester – where England are playing New Zealand - and in Jamaica, will see England and West Indies chasing record scores on the ground to win their respective Test matches.

Ranieri upbeat despite loss
Ranieri was without a host of international stars who are preparing for Euro 2008 and nursing injuries after a third-placed finish in Serie A this season.
And South China were up to the challenge, with Brazilian targetman Detinho causing the Bianconeri defence a host of problems.
"I think it was a good performance," said Ranieri. "Of course it was very difficult after the long journey, and jet lag, and very high humidity. It was a good match for both teams.
"We tried until the end of the match to draw, but well done to South China.
"They were a good team and played very well, similar to English football, a long ball to the big forward and then on to the second ball.
"It was a good performance from them."
Detinho held the ball up well inside the area and teed-up Manoel Santos to score midway through the first half.
Santos returned the favour moments before the interval.
The forward found space down the right before pulling the ball back for Detinho, who turned and arrowed a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.
Detinho nearly doubled his tally early in the second period, forcing goalkeeper Jess Vanstratten to turn a diving header round the post.
Maxwell then spurned a one-on-one opportunity before Juventus missed a host of half chances.
David Trezeguet, Raffaele Palladino, Tiago and Cristian Pasquato were all culpable before defender Jonathan Zebina headed in from a corner two minutes from time.
Guglielmo Stendardo spurned the chance to level, heading over from close range in stoppage time as South China held on for a memorable triumph.

Mancini will stay
The day after Mancini guided Inter to a third successive title, media speculation in England that he will leave Italy to take over at Chelsea has been rife.
But Inter's managing director Ernesto Paolillo believes there is a strong chance that Mancini will remain in Milan.
"There is an 80% chance that Mancini will remain at the club," he said.
"Mancini will have a meeting with the club president (Massimo Moratti) to decide on a mutual programme."
Mancini's relationship with Moratti has been under scrutiny since the 43-year-old coach said in March he wanted to leave at the end of the season, following his team's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool.
Mancini changed his mind 24 hours later after a meeting with Moratti.
That, however, did not quash speculation linking former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho with the Inter hotseat this summer.
"Had nothing happened against Liverpool we wouldn't be talking about this," said Paolillo.
"The fact is that the team wants Mancini to stay and he needs clarity."
Mancini chose not to answer questions about his future following Inter's title win.
The former Lazio boss, who is under contract with the Nerazzurri for a further three years, has become the most successful Inter coach of the last 30 years, winning two Coppa Italia titles, two Italian Supercups and three scudetti.
Inter can still claim the double later this month if they beat Roma in the Coppa Italia final.

Erikkson awaits his fate
The Swede's future as manager has been the subject of intense speculation since it emerged City owner Thaksin Shinawatra was conducting a review of the club.
Former England boss Eriksson has declined to comment on the situation throughout the promotional tour of Asia, which included a 3-1 loss to Thailand Premier All-Stars in Bangkok and Thursday night's 3-1 defeat to a South China Invitational XI in Hong Kong - a game which could prove to be his last in charge.
The first of those losses was played out in front of Thaksin, with the dire display expected to deepen the former Thai prime minister's ire after an elaborate attempt to provoke the Thai public to adopt the Blues as their Barclays Premier League team.
Eriksson, however, focused on a summer holiday following a gruelling first season as a Premier League manager despite the imminent completion of Thaksin's dossier.
"It has been a very, very long season for all of us, especially for a lot of young players and a lot of new players in the Premier League," he said.
"I think everybody looks forward to a break now."
The 60-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract at Eastlands, led City to a ninth-placed finish - their best campaign for three seasons - and secured an UEFA Cup spot via the Fair Play League, an achievement which could yet earn him a reprieve from Thaksin.
And Eriksson insists the future is bright at Eastlands after giving five of the FA Youth Cup-winning side their first tastes of first-team football on tour.

Fergie convinced that Ronaldo will stay
Ronaldo only signed a lucrative five-year contract with the Red Devils last summer but after emerging as the inspiration behind their Premier League and Champions League triumphs this season is now in line to be officially crowned the world's best player.
After taking his seasonal tally to a mindboggling 42 with the opening goal in Moscow on Wednesday, Ronaldo then survived the trauma of missing his effort in the penalty shoot-out as United overcame Chelsea to be crowned European champions for the third time.
Almost immediately, Real Madrid renewed their interest in the 23-year-old, triggering a withering response from Ferguson.
However, while the Scot is convinced Ronaldo will remain at Old Trafford this summer, he feels United must continue to make their presence felt in European competition if they are to keep the Madeira-born winger when the crunch really arrives.
"Real Madrid have no moral issues at all," said Ferguson.
"They think they can ride roughshod over everyone but they won't do it with us.
"Real Madrid are not the only club interested in Ronaldo. But the others are not saying so.
"Cristiano is 23 now. When he gets to 25 or 26 he will have a big decision to make. That will be our biggest task.
"How big we are then in terms of European trophies will be very important to this club."
Ferguson has repeatedly stressed the need for United to have more European Cups to their name.
This week's triumph has taken their tally to three but they still lag behind Ajax and Bayern Munich, who have four each, plus Liverpool with five and AC Milan and Real Madrid, who have seven and nine respectively.
Ferguson is confident the gap will narrow still further over the next couple of years, when he still hopes to be pouring scorn on the men from the Bernabeu, with club president Ramon Calderon a particular target.
Calderon has effectively alleging Ronaldo is remaining at United against his will.
Given General Franco's 40-year dictatorship was often at the benefit of Real in their battles with Catalan giants Barcelona, it is a comment the Manchester United manager is happy to submerge in sarcasm.
"Calderon makes that great statement 'Slavery was abolished many years ago'. Did they tell Franco that? Give me a break," said Ferguson.
"In terms of great clubs, Barcelona have far better morality than Real Madrid will ever have.
"The simple fact is Cristiano has another four years left on his contract."
It appears that Ronaldo would prefer to remain with United for at least another year, with the club keen to keep him for much longer than that.
Yet the suspicion remains his agent Jorge Mendes will demand more money this summer and if United refuse, as they have given every indication they will, it would be interesting to see what Ronaldo's stance would be.

Zambrotta to leave?
With Barca having just completed their second successive trophy-less season, widespread changes are anticipated at the Catalan giants before the new term.
Coach Frank Rijkaard has already been moved on, with reserve-team boss Pep Guardiola his replacement, while sporting director Txiki Begiristain announced on Monday there would be plenty of amendments to the playing squad.
Media speculation suggests the futures of up to a dozen Barca players are up in the air - including Italy full-back Zambrotta.
The 31-year-old World Cup winner said of that speculation: "It is a difficult moment in every aspect. Nobody knows anything about what is going to happen.
"The truth is I don't think it's most appropriate seeing my name in the (media) list of players leaving because I don't deserve to be there.
"I have already said before that you need to look at yourself and if in one or two years you have done all that you can then there is no problem."
Zambrotta, who joined Barca from Juventus in 2006, does admit though that he does not know where he will be plying his trade next season.
When asked if he will be playing alongside Ronaldinho somewhere in Italy, he said: "I don't know what the club (Barca) thinks about me. I have seen many things regarding AC Milan but I don't know because I have not spoken with either the board or with Txiki Begiristain.
"I have a contract until 2010 and as I said last year I would like to end my career in Italy and at home but still I don't know anything.
"Now I am not thinking about this because I don't know what is going to happen with me. It does not only depend on me."

Tevez delighted with the win
The 24-year-old striker scored the first penalty as United clinched a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win over Chelsea after a 1-1 draw after 120 minutes.
Tevez has twice been a runner-up in the Copa America final while playing for Argentina, while his Boca Juniors side lost the 2004 Copa Libertadores final to Colombia's Once Caldas.
He told Sportscenter: "It has been a long time since I felt like this - it's a huge emotion in my heart.
"When I was a child, I never thought I would be now lifting the cup, but dreams usually come true and I am very, very happy."
Following previous setbacks, Tevez knew fate would play a part in Moscow.
"I came from a couple of finals I lost, to Brazil in the Copa America and Once Caldas in the Libertadores. This time I had to win it."
Tevez hailed United manager Sir Alex Ferguson for the confidence he puts in him.
"He always gives me confidence," added Tevez. "I know what he thinks, what he needs and we always discuss about the decisions he will make.
"He has always backed me and I am very thankful to him."

Bangalore upset Chennai
Rahul Dravid's Royal Challengers - who already have no chance of reaching the semi-finals - looked to be on their way to their 10th defeat in the competition when they made just 126 for eight from their 20 overs after opting to bat first.
But the home team managed only 112 for eight in reply, with Anil Kumble claiming three for 14 and Dale Steyn two for 28.
The visitors must have feared the worst after being restricted to what was a new lowest score by a team who have batted out 20 overs in the IPL.
Dravid was the only Bangalore batsman to stick around for any period of time - long enough to notch 47 from 39 balls.
The former India captain received little in the way of support, with Praveen Kumar the next highest scorer among his team-mates with 21.
South African Albie Morkel was the pick of the Chennai bowlers, finishing with figures of four for 32 from his four overs.
Bangalore never looked like building a substantial total.
Openers Jacques Kallis (five) and Shreevats Goswami (10) fell cheaply and the wickets continued to tumble even when Dravid arrived and gave the innings a touch of stability.
Virat Kohli (10), Misbah-ul-Haq (four) and Mark Boucher (17) quickly came and went with Dravid watching on helplessly from the other end.
Dravid perished in the 17th over, caught at cover by Mahendra Singh Dhoni off the bowling of Morkel, with Praveen Kumar and Vinay Kumar (nought) falling in the final over.
Despite a solid opening partnership of 60 between Parthiv Patel and Stephen Fleming, the Super Kings never looked comfortable chasing 127.

Raul wins Destefano trophy
Raul was closely followed by Atletico Madrid teenager Sergio Aguero, with his Real team-mate, goalkeeper Iker Casillas, in third place.
The Spain international, who has been left out of his country's Euro 2008 squad, fired Real to their second successive Primera Liga title with 18 goals this season.
Both football fans and the game's leading personalities are involved in selecting the winner.
First supporters votes are collated to form a list of 50 players from which a group of judges - including Spain coach Luis Aragones - select the top three.
This year's list of 50 players included 13 from Real, eight from Barcelona and five from Atletico.

Fergie unfazed by Chelsea gameplay
Although his side went on to retain the Barclays Premier League title, Ferguson is still hurting by the defeat at Stamford Bridge.
He intends to put the record straight when England's top two go head to head on Wednesday night in Russia in the Champions League final.
He said: "I have the players to do the job and I trust them.
"Chelsea are physically stronger than most of the Premier League teams but we do not need to match that.
"We have to play with our main strength, our movement and our passing, our ability to create openings in the game.
"We are in good shape and I do not want us to change too much.
"Maybe we don't have the overall experience like Chelsea in terms of age but we have courage."
Certainly United have a variety of strong attacking options with the likes of 41-goal Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez to call on.
Tevez's loan spell is up next summer and United are hoping to tie him up on a long-term deal.
Ferguson said: "Part of the plan is to have Carlos at the club in the long term. There is no question we want him to stay.
"I think David Gill (chief executive) is progressing on that as best he can.
"One of the reasons we are here in Moscow and won the title is because of Carlos.
"He has that ability to score important goals for us, just like Eric Cantona used to do.
"Carlos has been a revelation for us and is a fantastic professional."
Ferguson insists, however, they are not a one-man band.

Agent slams Lampard link with Inter
Reports in Italy claim the England international, 29, is ready to quit Stamford Bridge this summer rather than extend his contract, which expires in 2009.
But agent Steve Kutner insisted there was "no truth" in the rumours, saying: "I don't know why Inter Milan would think this. Nobody has talked to me and I am good friends with the owner, Massimo Moratti.
"I took Paul Ince there, I took Patrick Vieira there - if there was something on, I am sure I would know.
"The situation is that Frank has got a massive match on Wednesday, after which he needs to spend time with his family, because he has not had a real opportunity to do that since his mother died.

Century no surprise
Vaughan, 33, has a habit of scenting a three-figure score is around the corner and did so upon arrival for the first match of the npower series against New Zealand.
His 106 equalled Graham Gooch's record of Test hundreds at the headquarters of English cricket and helped his side establish a 42-run lead on first innings.
Vaughan's 18th international century also highlighted his ability to shrug off poor form when it counts - his seven innings for Yorkshire this summer had yielded just 135 runs.
"I had it on Monday when I came here," said Vaughan. "It seems very surreal that you get these feelings.

Kubica in dark on his future
Kubica is out of contract at the end of this season, though the German team do have a one-year option on him which they can choose to exercise.
They must do so before September otherwise the likes of Renault and Ferrari, who are reportedly interested in the Pole, could poach him.
But BMW won't be rushed into making an announcement, with team boss Mario Theissen saying: "We'll announce next year's drivers in the summer."
And until the team confirms their line-up speculation about Kubica's future will continue as the Pole's impressive results this season have attracted the attention of other teams.
Kubica, though, isn't allowing talk of his future to distract him from the job at hand.
"I don't know," he told Autosport when asked about his plans for next year.
"Every day there is some new rumour, it was same as two weeks ago, one week ago. I have no new information."
Kubica refused to reveal whether there was any one team he had his hopes set on signing for.
Inter wins the title
Needing to better Roma's result against Catania, Inter were under pressure after their title rivals took an early lead while they struggled to break down Parma.
But Ibrahimovic's goal after 62 minutes regained the initiative and his second after 79 minutes made certain of a third straight league title.
Roma conceded a late equaliser as they drew 1-1 in Sicily.
The results condemned Parma to relegation but saved Catania, who had looked like easing the title the way of Roma when they allowed Mirko Vucinic to give the capital side an eighth-minute lead.
But the Sicilians earned the point which preserved their top flight status thanks to an 85th-minute goal from Jorge Martinez.
Empoli followed Parma through the trapdoor despite a 2-1 win over already relegated Livorno.

Rajasthan Royals on fire
An assured batting display from the home side paved the way for victory as they lost just the wicket of Swapnil Asnodkar (50) in their total of 197 for one.
South Africa captain Graeme Smith proved the mainstay of the innings hitting 75 from 49 balls while Shane Watson added 46 off 28.
And when the recalled Sohail Tanvir took two early wickets to reduce the visitors to five for three match was all but sealed.
Bangalore captain Rahul Dravid provided the only resistence for the visitors hitting 75, including six sixes, from 36 balls as his side could manage just 132 for nine from their 20 overs.
Uncertainty surrounded the staging of the match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium following the bomb blasts in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Rajasthan captain Shane Warne and several other of the team's overseas players had voiced concerns about staying in the city while Bangalore requested the game be moved to the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, the fixture got the green light to go ahead as planned after IPL commissioner Lalit Modi assured the "necessary security arrangements" would be put in place for the game.
Dravid won the toss and put Rajasthan in to bat and Asnodkar immediately signalled his intent smashing Zaheer Khan for six from the final ball of the opening over.
The 24-year-old right-hander shared a 109-run stand with Smith, before he became Anil Kumble's first victim of the tournament, slashing a shot to Misbah-ul-Haq at short third man.

Sorenstam tied for lead
The former world number one, who announced on Tuesday that she would be retiring at the end of the season, made five birdies in a bogey-free round at Upper Montclair Country Club to continue her recent impressive form.
"Although I am going to retire at the end of the season, I still want to give my best every time I play. Today was very good," said the Swede, who has won her last two events.
Kim also enjoyed a bogey-free round while Hetherington had six birdies and a bogey.
World number one Lorena Ochoa is tied with five other golfers for fourth, just one shot off the lead, after carding five birdies and one bogey.
Ochoa has won the event in both of her previous appearances, taking the title at Wykagl in New York in 2006 before retaining it last year when it moved to Upper Montclair.
The Mexican won five of her first six tournaments this year before finishing fifth at the SemGroup Championship and tied for 12th at last weekend's Michelob Ultra Open.

Drogba for AC Milan?
Drogba has been strongly linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge for a number of months and the Ivorian has now revealed that he met with Milan at the start of last season.
The 30-year-old, who could make his final appearance for Chelsea in next week's UEFA Champions League final against Manchester United, has confessed to flying to Italy in August 2006 to talk with veteran Milan defender Paolo Maldini and the club's vice-president Adriano Galliani.
"All footballers dream of signing for Milan." said Drogba - who joined Chelsea from Marseille for £24million in 2004 - in extracts from his autobiography quoted in The Sun. "I explained to Paolo Maldini that Milan is a club I would love to join."
Drogba goes on to say that Galliani allegedly asked him, 'When would you like to play for Milan?'
And Drogba replied: "Whenever you want, it's all up to you - get the money ready and go see Chelsea."
Drogba has also disclosed that he informed ex-Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho -who was in charge of the Blues at the time - that he was going to the dentist in Paris, but the appointment was cancelled and he travelled to Milan instead.
And according to Drogba, when Mourinho found out about the discussions with Milan he blasted the forward over the telephone and forced him to train with Chelsea's reserves.
Drogba added: "Jose took the phone and put it on loud speaker and said, 'OK, seeing as we are not kids we are going to talk.

Carrick bullish ahead of the finals
United face Chelsea in Moscow next week brimming with confidence after securing their 17th league title last weekend.
And midfielder Carrick believes that sheer determination to prove critics wrong has taken the Old Trafford club to the brink of a remarkable double.
The England international told MUTV: "At the start of the campaign we wanted to prove that the previous season's title was not a one-off, we really were the best team.
"But the season was not as straightforward as the previous one. We did not start in particularly great form, we were behind Arsenal and people were saying it was over.
"So to come out on top is very satisfying, we really earned it this time around. To win the league and be in the final of the Champions League, that is what this club is all about."
He added: "The key to our success has been determination, and the discipline within the squad.
"The boss made some signings last summer that really strengthened the squad as a whole and that has proved the case in recent months when everyone has played their part in a massive way.

PCB to set up its own league
The proposed Pakistan Premier League (PPL), based on a similar format to that of the IPL, was discussed during the meeting of the PCB's governing body on Tuesday with members believing it would boost domestic cricket in the country.
PCB chairman Nasim Ashraf said the idea has already received interest from the business community.
"We will be waiting for a suitable time to start the tournament as many corporate institutions here have also shown their willingness to sponsor the event," Nasim told the Dawn newspaper.
He also made it clear that present future tours programme of the International Cricket Council did not provide any room for scheduling the tournament during the current tenure.
"There is presently no gap available for organising such an event and the PCB would be working on the details," he said.
