Villarreal have enjoyed a remarkable rise to prominence in recent years, finishing in the top five of La Liga three times in the last four seasons and also reaching the last four of the Champions League.
But Pellegrini said: "The objectives always renew themselves and there is no point looking back. We need to start from zero and get back to finding our top form."
He added: "We have finished third in the league with 65 points, then reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and then finished runners-up with 77 points," said Pellegrini.
"We are going to try and get to the top in all the competitions, but also bearing in mind there are some very strong teams.
"If we try to set ourselves the aim of winning a title, with so many powerful teams in the league, it will lead to frustration
