Ponting doubtful against Bangladesh

Australia cricket captain Ricky Ponting underwent surgery in Melbourne today (Monday) to repair a wrist injury suffered during the third one-day international of Australia’s VB Tour of the West Indies.

Ponting was reviewed by Cricket Australia (CA) medical staff in consultation with Dr Greg Hoy, a wrist specialist.

“Ricky has sustained a tendon injury that requires repair of tissues that hold the tendon in place. This surgery was performed today,” CA Medical Officer Trefor James, said.

“Ponting’s recovery will be monitored in the coming weeks and a decision regarding his fitness for the upcoming series against Bangladesh and then the Champions Trophy will be made in due course.”
